The Plain Man's Guide to Advertising (1963)
From the www.transdiffusion.org/ archives...
A forgotten gem from Bob Godfrey, this surreal mix of advertising tropes from the 1960s is very funny but has a neat anti-capitalist undertow.
Poor quality visual transfer. Apologies.

From the www.transdiffusion.org/ archives... The German-language RTL Plus, broadcast from tiny Luxembourg but aimed at most of West Germany, starts the day with a three-part sign-on: 'Happi Luxembourg', borrowed from the Radio Luxembourg German Service, over a montage of Luxembourgeois sights; a NASA-style countdown sequence featuring various buttons being pressed in the radio station's control...

The show was in colour, but this has been recorded on reel-to-reel videotape from 405-lines VHF reception, so is not. This is all we have; don't ask for more. Recommended reading: 'Seems ...

RTBF1 continuity | 1980s
Переглядів 3,3 тис.8 років тому
From the www.transdiffusion.org/ archives... We're guessing this is RTBF-1 from a couple of clues, as the entire clip is totally unbranded - not something that would ever happen today. It's definitely (a) in French; (b) in Belgium as that's the Belgian National Lottery symbol; (c) a public service channel because of the news. From that, we'll go with RTBF's main service, La Une. TF1 in the 1980s | 13 April 1985

From the www.transdiffusion.org/ archives... Gotta love a bit of France's TF1 branding in the 1980s: a multicoloured, slightly mad, psychedelic, 1970s-style long ident takes us to the continuity announcer and then the 1980s-style lasers and computer graphics news bulletin. Fabulous. Related reading: “Television, The Public Sphere, And National Identity” by Monroe E Price amzn.to/1LjFdjt

Great clip.
Dimanche 21 Avril 2002... 🤢🤮
I'm a Yank, but I think if I was a British kid back in the 80's, I would have listened to that screen with the theme of "Good Morning Britain" over it out of sheer enthusiasm. I love the sound of that theme. Jeff Wayne is a genius.
Somewhat ironic seeing an ATV logo for the first schools programme given that they were rebranded Central.
That would never be allowed these days, nearly a minute of silence. They'd be fined for 'dead air' (although I suppose the fact there is still visual as it's TV, might get away with it)
"Cold, staying cold" It's February, what do you expect?
8:31 Get me the f*** out of here!
Check out who got new computers with all those logo animations! Spinning and rotating at the same time?! Smooth gradients! 1986 baby!
Do you have any clips of when the Channel 5 tender was granted from around 1991?
I remember the Thames television LWT handover it meant no school in the morning and a feeling that's alls right with the world.
5:47 we served the south, and it abandoned us
Back then when the Welsh Children's Television from the 60s and 1974 are look like the 50s TV. Ar Lin Mam (Lili Lon) is the first one that aired during 1959 to 1975.
It actually replaced by Pili Pala and Ffalabalam during the late 70s and early 80s.
I don't remember this to be honest (I was 10 when it closed in 2002), but I do remember BBC choice, late 90s maybe? I can remember Dad buying one of the first Freeview boxes for £100 in 2003 I think, the box was huge, Men and Motors was our favourite channel as you got to watch The Sweeney, Minder, The Professionals!
S4C/Channel 4 would often show films early ; Spinal Tap was maybe less than two years old at the time. Edited: The U.K cinema release date was May 14th 1984.

Well, that was a stupid thing to do
So this was a "ghost programme" right? Wouldnt it have been beneficial for general consumption in regards to transmitter interruption announcements in particular? How would people have known about outages otherwise before the internet? I mean, about a year ago my local transmitter (Emley moor) went off at exactly midnight for essential works while i was in the middle of watching an episode of american dad. I went online where i couldnt find any information of an outage on google but then checked twitter/x which confirmed it was down until 6am for maintenance. Nothing elsewhere, especially on tv itself. At first i thought my telly was knackered!

I wonder why Peter Lewis referred to ITV rather than LWT when introducing That’s My Boy?

Wonderful reminder of a much-loved, and much-missed programme! It was this that first introduced me to the words and wisdom of Alastair Campbell, and Peter (now Lord) Hennessy, on this. And fabulous to be reminded of the fabulous (and much-missed younger) Clive James... and (wow!) a witty, young, and beguiling Anne Robinson!
Despite the negative reception that this ident has, this ident has absolutely fantastic animation and graphical quality for 1996. Don't judge me.
Francis defected from Thames that year. In return BBC gave them Jack Scott

At 5:04 the music in the background.......isn't that Brimful Of Asha?
They knew where to kick Granada where it hurts. Right in the coronation streets. I bet more than half of the Granada region would have been tuning in at 7.30 Mondays and Wednesdays back them😂
I had forgotten what a babe Jane Pauley was back then. I guess time will do that to you; and her....
Cy Grant eschewed Drill. Very diplomatic.
Great for daytime travel for those of us who didn't commute, and of course for those poor souls who did. However, all the red seats and lighting poles were too much for drivers who complained about the fact red means stop. Anyway £3 go anywhere the first weekend was a great day out. But Mk1 coaches with paint on the inside of doors, hap-dash was not a new coach. Certainly by 1990 with new units on the Weymouth, Thameslink Kings Lynn made up for what it was like in the first days.
Happy 20th Birthday From BBC Two ❤️
I thought, they never would introduce color to the 405 line standard?

Oh, man, I remember that music! TV-am went on air when I was 8, and I loyally got up early every morning to watch it. God knows why! I was a bit obsessed with it.

Belle époque!
Pleasant ident.
Tyne Tees always had nice idents. This one isn't one of their absolute best, but it is still very nice.
it was in janury 1984 if i remember.
